Optical Fibre Backbone Project Boosts Railway Communication.webp

Indian Railways has approved the Optical Fibre Cable Backbone Project, worth approximately 398 crore rupees, in the Ahmedabad and Ratlam Divisions.

The Ministry of Railways stated that under the project, optical fibre cables will be provided over 1,929 Route Kilometres (RKm) across Western Railway, including 1,456 RKm in the Ahmedabad Division and 473 RKm in the Ratlam Division. The project has been approved under the broader initiative titled "Provision of Kavach with communication backbone of Long Term Evolution on the remaining routes of Indian Railways".

The ministry said that enhancing the communication backbone will improve the capacity, reliability, and efficiency of railway communication systems. It will also support modern signalling systems, including the implementation of Kavach, enabling seamless data transmission across the network.
