April 10, New Delhi – Ukraine and Russia will observe a ceasefire during the Orthodox Easter holidays, announcing a rare 32-hour halt in fighting.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the ceasefire on Thursday, and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv would abide by the measure.
The Kremlin stated that the Easter ceasefire would be in effect from Saturday at 4 p.m. to midnight on Sunday evening. Zelenskyy said that Ukraine has repeatedly proposed a ceasefire to halt fighting during Orthodox Easter.
Putin's announcement is similar to a 30-hour ceasefire he ordered last year, during which each side accused the other of violations.
