Islamabad, April 1 Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that his government had taken effective measures to balance the supply and demand of essential items amid the ongoing tensions in West Asia.
He made the remarks while chairing a review meeting to formulate a comprehensive strategy to protect the country from the financial and economic impacts of the regional situation, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.
"Many countries around the world are facing difficulties in maintaining the balance of supply and demand for essential commodities in the context of the recent situation, but Pakistan is successfully and effectively addressing this challenging situation," Shehbaz said.
He commended that all institutions have taken effective and timely measures to prevent any emergency in the supply and demand of essential commodities, while progress is being made successfully on a comprehensive strategy to export a substantial quantity of food and beverage items after meeting the country's domestic needs.
The government will steadfastly continue all necessary measures for the stability and growth of the national economy and the welfare and well-being of the people.
He directed that a medium and long-term comprehensive strategy be developed to confront the economic and financial impacts on the country due to the trend of rising prices in the global market.
"With the mutual cooperation of relevant ministries and institutions, the strategy should be developed keeping in view the stability and growth of all sectors of the economy," he said.
The Prime Minister directed the ministries to propose measures to minimise the effects on exports and the national gross production due to rising production costs in the context of the global tense situation.
