March 10, New Delhi – Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Monday that schools in Pakistan would be closed for two weeks and announced sweeping cuts in government fuel consumption and spending.
He stated that these measures are aimed at controlling the situation arising from soaring oil prices, triggered by the conflict with Iran, which are threatening to destabilize the economy.
Under the new measures, all schools will be closed for two weeks, starting next week, while universities will immediately switch to online classes to reduce commuting.
Government departments will face a 50% cut in fuel allowances for two months, and 60% of official vehicles (excluding buses and ambulances) will be taken off the road.
