
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner of Delhi in connection with the tragic fire in Palam, southwest Delhi. The incident resulted in the deaths of nine people. Taking the matter suo motu, the NHRC has requested a detailed report within two weeks, including updates on compensation for the victims and the injured.
According to media reports, the fire broke out on the 18th of this month in a four-story building, reportedly due to a short circuit in a shop on the ground floor. The reports also stated that residents attempted to rescue those trapped, but several were injured in the process. Furthermore, reports indicate that a malfunction in the Fire Brigade's hydraulic crane delayed the rescue operations.
