Chennai, February 22 AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has claimed that Tamil Nadu was experiencing an economic growth of 11.19 per cent due to the industrial projects that were signed during the previous regime.
Palaniswami, the Leader of the Opposition, criticized the DMK government, citing comments made by Chief Minister M K Stalin that Tamil Nadu had attracted investments worth Rs 10.62 lakh crore, and that 77 per cent of these projects had been completed.
"If that is the case, then 25 lakh jobs should have been created. What the chief minister is saying is a blatant lie," Palaniswami said, while addressing a public meeting in neighboring Thiruvallur on Saturday evening.
Appealing to the audience to vote for AIADMK and its alliance partners in the upcoming Assembly elections, he said that in 2019, the AIADMK government held the Global Investors Meet, during which commitments of Rs 3.05 lakh crore were secured through the signing of 304 MoUs with various companies. "Nearly 10 lakh jobs were created then," he claimed.
Palaniswami asserted that the industrial projects established during the AIADMK regime, following the signing of MoUs, came into operation under the DMK rule, and that this was the reason for the state's 11.19 per cent growth, rather than the claim made by Chief Minister Stalin.
"The 11.19 per cent growth in Tamil Nadu is due to the industrial projects signed during the AIADMK regime. He (Stalin) claims that the government achieved double-digit growth due to this. But this is a blatant lie," Palaniswami said.
Stalin has repeatedly emphasized that Tamil Nadu is experiencing double-digit growth due to various initiatives undertaken by his government.
Palaniswami pointed out that 11 medical colleges were established in a single year during the AIADMK regime, and asked Stalin whether they had managed to establish one medical college in Tamil Nadu.
