
Kolkata, April 10 West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja, who is seeking re-election from the Shyampukur assembly seat here, has declared movable assets worth over Rs 4 crore and shown a steady increase in her annual income, according to her affidavit.
In the affidavit, the 63-year-old minister, who is a doctor by profession, stated that her income comes from her salary, fees for her professional services, and returns from financial investments.
She reported an income of Rs 14.01 lakh in the 2020-21 fiscal year, Rs 14.36 lakh in 2021-22, and Rs 13.41 lakh in the 2022-23 fiscal year. Her annual earnings increased significantly thereafter, to Rs 24.10 lakh in 2023-24 and Rs 29.22 lakh in 2024-25.
Shashi Panja has declared movable assets worth Rs 4.06 crore in 2025-26, while her husband's movable assets stand at Rs 1.88 crore in the same period.
She has Rs 22,500 in cash, bank deposits, including a fixed deposit of Rs 2.47 crore, and Rs 32.06 lakh in another account. Her husband has Rs 19,300 in cash, a fixed deposit of Rs 91 lakh and Rs 5.79 lakh in a bank account.
Shashi Panja has also paid Rs 90 lakh as an advance for an apartment, according to the affidavit.
The minister owns two cars purchased in 2021 and 2024, valued at Rs 13.30 lakh and Rs 11.25 lakh respectively, while her husband bought a car in 2025 worth Rs 5 lakh.
Panja has declared owning 154 grams of gold jewelry valued at Rs 13 lakh, while her husband owns 83 grams of jewelry valued at Rs 7 lakh. The affidavit states that the minister does not own any immovable property in her name.
Her husband, Prasun Kumar Panja's income has also registered a sharp increase. His annual earnings were Rs 6.76 lakh in 2020-21, Rs 9.38 lakh in 2021-22, Rs 10.43 lakh in 2022-23, Rs 19.07 lakh in 2023-24 and Rs 20.02 lakh in 2024-25.
However, his husband, also a doctor, owns residential properties worth Rs 1.78 crore, including inherited houses and a two-story property in Puri, Odisha, purchased in 2009 for Rs 15.96 lakh and now valued at Rs 31.5 lakh.
She has also declared taking out a loan of Rs 68.01 lakh from a public sector bank.
Panja is the daughter-in-law of late Trinamool Congress leader and former union minister Ajit Kumar Panja and is a prominent face in the state cabinet.
