In a moment of pride for Jammu and Kashmir, para archer Sheetal Devi has been honored with the Vogue Values: Women of Excellence award, recognizing her resilience, achievements, and inspirational journey.
Sharing her thoughts in a social media post, Sheetal expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that she was proud to stand among women who lead with purpose and demonstrate that true excellence is built on strength, grace, courage, and heart. She said she carries the honor with gratitude and a promise to continue growing, contributing, and uplifting others along the way.
Sheetal made history at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris, where she won a bronze medal in the mixed team compound event, becoming the youngest Indian Paralympic medalist. She has also won gold medals at major international competitions, including the World Championships, Asian Championships, and the Asian Para Games.
Born on January 10, 2007, in Loidhar village of the Kishtwar district, Sheetal was born with phocomelia, a rare medical condition resulting in the absence of arms. Despite the challenges, she rose to become the first and only female para-archery champion without upper limbs, symbolizing determination and excellence on the global stage.
