Chandigarh, March 20 Aam Aadmi Party leader Baltej Pannu accused Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday of attempting to shift blame and distort facts regarding the sacrilege incidents in Punjab.
Pannu stated that major sacrilege incidents, including those in 1986 and 2015, occurred when the Akali Dal, not the AAP, was in power.
Refuting Badal's claim that sacrilege incidents began after the AAP government took office, he said that people are aware of past events, including the theft and desecration of the holy book, the Guru Granth Sahib, in 2015.
Referring to the Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan incidents in 2015, when police fired at people protesting against the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib, Pannu said that the police action led to deaths at the time, and it occurred under Akali rule.
He stated that the inquiry commissions had pointed to the role of the then government.
The Akali Dal's rule from 2007 to 2017 was marred by drug-related issues, corruption, and sacrilege cases, Pannu said, adding that the people of Punjab would not forget these incidents.
