Pawan Khera Investigation: 'Incriminating Material' Found.webp

New Delhi, April 7 An Assam Police team arrived at the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera on Tuesday to question him and conducted a search related to a case involving allegations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family, officials said.

Speaking to reporters outside the Congress leader's house, Assam police DCP Debojit Nath said that Khera was not present at his residence. However, he said that a search was conducted and electronic devices were seized. Some "incriminating material" was found, but its details cannot be disclosed at this stage, he said.

The case has been registered at the Crime Branch Police Station in Guwahati, the DCP said.

The whereabouts of the Congress leader are currently unknown, but he will be traced, the DCP said.

The team formally informed the Delhi Police upon arrival, after which a local police team joined in assisting in the proceedings, official sources said.

This development comes amid a political tussle following Khera's allegation on Sunday that Sarma's wife had three passports and that he had hidden information about her assets in his poll affidavit.

Hitting back, Sarma had alleged that the Congress used "false information" sourced from a Pakistani social media group to level "baseless" and "malicious" allegations against his wife. He termed it an attempt to influence the Assam elections and a punishable offense.

An FIR was filed following a complaint against Khera over his statements, the DCP said.
