February 20, New Delhi – India has formally joined Pax Silica, a U.S.-led initiative on artificial intelligence and supply chain security, during the Global AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi.
The Pax Silica Declaration was signed in the presence of Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology, and Jacob Helberg, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs.
Sergio Gor, U.S. Ambassador to India, MeitY Secretary S Krishnan, and other officials were also present.
The name combines "Pax," Latin for peace, and "Silica," referring to silicon chips, symbolizing a stable, cooperative, and peaceful technological order.
The declaration highlights the importance of a reliable supply chain, essential for mutual economic security, and recognizes AI as a transformative force for long-term prosperity.
Pax Silica is the U.S. Department of State's flagship initiative on AI and supply chain security, aimed at building a new economic security consensus among allies and trusted partners.
The initiative was launched in December to create a secure, resilient, and innovation-driven supply chain for critical minerals and artificial intelligence.
The declaration outlines a shared vision of deeper economic and technological cooperation across supply chains—from raw materials to semiconductors and AI infrastructure—along with a commitment to mutual prosperity and security.
Member nations of Pax Silica include Australia, Greece, Israel, Japan, Qatar, South Korea, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
