New Delhi, March 21 Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations passed off peacefully across the national capital on Saturday, despite extensive arrangements made by the Delhi Police, a senior official said.
Senior police officers conducted on-site inspections and reviewed arrangements at major religious sites, including Jama Masjid, to ensure preparedness, officials said.
Station house officers also held meetings with local peace committees to strengthen coordination and maintain communal harmony, they said.
According to the police, Eid prayers were offered peacefully across the city without any reports of untoward incidents.
Heavy deployment of police personnel was made at mosques and other sensitive locations, with authorities putting in place elaborate crowd management and surveillance measures, they added.
As part of the security grid, intensified patrolling and flag marches covering six to eight kilometres in sensitive areas were conducted in several districts over the past two days.
"All necessary arrangements were put in place, and the situation remained peaceful," the officer said.
Police not only maintained a strict vigil but also a visible presence on roads and in densely populated areas to prevent any untoward incidents during the festivities.
The police closely monitored social media platforms to check the spread of rumours or misinformation, and urged citizens to rely only on verified and official sources of information.
Additional personnel, including staff from various units, were deployed and properly briefed to ensure a safe and harmonious environment during the celebrations.
Police also set up multiple checkpoints at key locations for monitoring the movement of vehicles.
