
February 18, New Delhi – Peru’s recently ousted President, José Jeri, bid farewell to his cabinet at the gates of the Government Palace in Lima after Congress voted to remove him from office due to a scandal involving undisclosed meetings with a Chinese businessman. Jeri was seen surrounded by his ministers and supporters as he greeted people outside the palace following the impeachment vote. Congress removed him with 75 votes in favor, 24 against, and 3 abstentions. Legislators are expected to elect a new president of Congress on Wednesday, who will also take over as Peru's interim president.
