Ahmedabad, March 6 Jasprit Bumrah is a world-class bowler, but he can also have an off-day, something that Glenn Phillips and the New Zealand team would be hoping for when they face India in the T20 World Cup final on Sunday.
Bumrah has been India's standout performer, with excellent performances against Pakistan, South Africa, the West Indies, and England. His bowling in the final overs was exceptional.
However, Phillips, who had some success against Bumrah during the bilateral series leading up to the T20 World Cup, believes that everyone makes mistakes, and Bumrah is no exception.
"Bumrah is a fantastic bowler. He has so many variations. He bowls the yorkers perfectly in the final overs. You know, and he's also human. He's allowed to have a bad day, just like the rest of us. So hopefully, we can have a good day against him," Phillips said, praising Bumrah while also issuing a warning to the hosts.
He felt that England's plan was to exploit Bumrah while targeting other batsmen.
"The way England played him yesterday, trying to take advantage of the last two overs and maximize their chances, that was their tactic."
Phillips emphasized that New Zealand need to capitalize on every opportunity that Bumrah misses, as they can't just afford to bowl four overs to him.
"It's not necessarily going to be that. As I said, a bowler is allowed to make mistakes, and if he does, we need to take advantage. That also means that if he bowls well, we need to adapt and adjust our strategy accordingly."
