New Delhi, April 11 President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to the renowned social reformer, Jyotirao Phule, on Saturday, stating that he dedicated his life to uplifting marginalized communities.

Phule was born on this day in 1827 in the village of Katgun, in the Satara district of Maharashtra.

"Mahatma Jyotirao Phule devoted his life to uplifting marginalized communities. He made significant contributions to the advancement of women's education, leaving a lasting legacy of social reform and inclusion," President Murmu said in a post on X.

Murmu also paid floral tributes to Phule at Prerna Sthal, Samvidhan Sadan.

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, were also present at the event.
