Thiruvananthapuram, March 19 Two young people were killed after a tipper truck loaded with stones hit their motorcycle and later overturned onto a car at Pirappancode here on Thursday, police said.
The deceased were identified as Adithyan (19) of Koppam and Julie (20) of Kattakada.
According to the Venjaramoodu police, the accident occurred around 12:45 pm on the Nagarukuzhy-Pirappancode road when the tipper truck collided with the motorcycle on which the two were travelling.
Following the collision, the driver lost control of the vehicle and stones spilled onto the road.
In the impact, the truck overturned and fell onto a car that was behind the motorcycle, police said.
Adithyan and Julie were rushed to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to their injuries.
Police said two people inside the car were rescued after lifting the cabin portion of the truck and cutting open parts of the vehicle. They were also taken to a hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway, police said.
The bodies will be handed over to relatives after the postmortem, they added.
