
JAMMU, APRIL 06: Government Degree Colleges across the Jammu Division conducted tree-planting drives as part of an initiative by the Higher Education Department to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students.
At GDC Kastigarh, students and staff planted saplings on campus under the guidance of Principal Prof. Koshal Kumar Mangotra, learning proper planting techniques and post-care practices.
At GDC Ramkote, the NSS unit and Eco Club planted a variety of plants, guided by Principal Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, with students committing to nurture them.
GDC Ramban planted around 70 saplings—including shade, fruit-bearing, and ornamental varieties—led by Principal Prof. Romesh Kumar Atri, faculty, NSS, and NCC volunteers.
GDC Ramgarh, under Principal Prof. (Dr.) Meeru Abrol, and GDC Vijaypur, led by Dr. Ashu Vashisht, conducted drives with active student and staff participation, focusing on campus greening and sustainability.
GDC Kakryal Katra collaborated with NSS, NCORD, Red Ribbon Club, and Youth Club to promote afforestation and ecological balance.
GCW Gandhinagar planted 150 saplings under the theme “To plant trees is to re-write the future,” guided by the Higher Education Department.
At GDC Paloura, students, NSS/NCC cadets, and staff planted ornamental, medicinal, and fruit saplings under Principal Dr. Savi Behl, highlighting the role of trees in biodiversity, climate mitigation, and ecological balance.
The drives collectively aimed to instill environmental responsibility, enhance green cover, and encourage sustainable practices among youth.
