February 28, New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Semiconductor Assembly, Test and Packaging (ATMP) facility of Micron Semiconductor Technology India Private Limited in Sanand, Gujarat.
The inauguration marks a major milestone in India's semiconductor manufacturing journey, as commercial production has begun and the first made-in-India semiconductor memory modules have been shipped from the Sanand ATMP facility.
The project was the first proposal approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. With a total investment of over ₹22,500 crore, the foundation for the facility was laid in September 2023.
Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw and senior Micron executives were present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said that the India AI Impact Summit, organized in India, introduced the world to the country's AI capabilities.
Earlier, the Prime Minister held a roadshow in Sanand, where large numbers of people gathered along the route to greet him.
