PM-Rahat Scheme: J&K Launches Initiative for Road Accident Victims.webp

Jammu, March 16 The Jammu and Kashmir government has launched the PM-Road Accident Victims Hospitalisation and Treatment (PM-Rahat) scheme, aimed at providing timely medical assistance to those injured in road accidents.

According to an official communiqué received from the Transport department, the initiative ensures cashless treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh per victim in over 140 designated hospitals during the critical "golden hour," covering up to seven days from the date of the accident. This ensures immediate medical care and significantly improves the chances of survival.

All concerned departments, including transport, health, police, and the district administration, will work in coordination to effectively implement the scheme, besides ensuring prompt response in case of road accidents, it said.

The government has urged the public to report road accidents to the nearest police station or control room, helping the victims reach the designated hospitals quickly so that timely treatment can be provided under the scheme.

Individuals who assist accident victims, known as "Rah-Veer," will receive Rs 25,000 and a Certificate of Appreciation, it said.

If more than one person assists in rescuing the victim, the award amount will be shared equally among them. In addition, 10 national-level awards of Rs 1,00,000 each will be given annually to the most deserving "Rah-Veers."
