Handwara Police secures conviction in POCSO case

The Jammu & Kashmir Police in Handwara has successfully secured a conviction in a POCSO case registered under FIR No. 69/2021 at Police Station Kralgund.

Srinagar, March 24: In a significant achievement, the Jammu & Kashmir Police in Handwara has successfully secured a conviction in a sensitive case registered under FIR No. 69/2021 at Police Station Kralgund.

The Honorable Principal District & Sessions Court, Kupwara, has sentenced the accused, Irshad Ahmad Mir, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹50,000 under Section 4(2) of the POCSO Act. Additionally, the accused has been awarded 3 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of ₹10,000 under Section 363 IPC. Both sentences will run concurrently.

The case concerns the kidnapping and sexual assault of a minor girl in 2021. The conviction stands as a testament to the dedicated investigation, professional approach, and relentless efforts of the Handwara Police in ensuring justice for victims, especially in cases involving crimes against children.
