Imphal, March 15 Four individuals have been arrested for extorting contractual nurses at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal, police said on Sunday.
The arrests were made based on a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the victims, and Rs 39 lakh and a pistol were seized from their possession.
"Following an investigation into a case registered regarding the collection of money from contractual nurses of JNIMS, police arrested four individuals involved in the crime from their residences in Imphal West district on Friday," a police statement said.
The accused committed the crime at the behest of the banned militant group KCP (Taibangnganba) and transferred the collected money to the underground outfit, it added.
