Sitapur (UP), March 12 A 35-year-old man is alleged to have killed his mother here by hitting her with a brick while he was under the influence of alcohol, police said on Thursday.
According to neighbors, Harishankar often argued with his mother while intoxicated, but the dispute on Wednesday night turned violent, resulting in her death.
The incident occurred in Unkakheda village in the Kamlapur area, police said.
Additional Superintendent of Police Durgesh Kumar Singh said that the accused, Harishankar, had a heated argument with his mother, Malti (65), while intoxicated.
During the argument, he allegedly picked up a brick lying nearby and struck his mother, killing her on the spot, the officer said.
After the incident, the accused locked himself inside a room. When police reached the spot, they broke open the door and arrested him, Singh added.
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation.
Harishankar is being questioned in custody, and further legal action will be taken after the post-mortem report, the officer said.
