Thane, April 2 A priest was arrested on Thursday in Dombivali, Thane district, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl, according to a police official.
The official at the Tilaknagar police station identified the accused as Harish Bhave, who visits homes to perform religious rituals.
"Bhave is known to the victim's family. When the minor's parents had stepped out for work, he allegedly entered the house and sexually assaulted the girl. He was arrested after the child narrated the incident to her parents, who filed a complaint," he said.
Bhave has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the official informed.
