Jammu, March 19 – In response to the rush of pilgrims visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir during the Chaitra Navratri festival, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Udhampur-Reasi range held a crime review meeting on Thursday.

According to a police statement, DIG Sarah Rizvi of the Udhampur-Reasi range held a crime review of the Reasi district at Katra. The meeting was attended by SSP Reasi Paramvir Singh, SP Katra, and Additional SP Reasi, along with other police officers.

During the meeting, SSP Reasi presented a detailed overview of policing performance, including case disposals, the progress of ongoing investigations, inquest proceedings, crimes against women, action against drug peddlers and cattle smugglers, and the redressal of public grievances.

SSP Reasi briefed the DIG on the status of ongoing and pending cases under the NDPS Act, along with measures being taken to increase the conviction rate and ensure timely justice.

Special emphasis was placed on the effective implementation of new criminal laws and the adoption of modern policing tools and procedures, including e-Sakshya, e-Summons, e-FIR, and Zero FIR.

The meeting also focused on strict adherence to timelines in investigations, particularly in cases requiring completion within 60 and 90 days. Instructions were issued to ensure timely visits by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), proper handling of forensic evidence, and the use of platforms like MedLeaPR to strengthen medico-legal processes.

DIG Rizvi appreciated the efforts of the District Police Reasi, particularly in improving the disposal rate of NDPS and other serious cases. She emphasized the need for the expeditious execution of court processes and the timely disposal of pending cases, especially those involving serious and sensitive offences.

It was also directed to intensify random vehicle checks to deter offenders and other antisocial elements.

The officers were instructed to work with utmost dedication and professionalism to curb the menace of narcotics and drug abuse, and to take strict action against organized crime.

Special emphasis was also laid on ensuring robust security around vital installations and religious places.

SSP Reasi assured DIG Rizvi that all directions and instructions would be implemented in letter and spirit on the ground. The meeting concluded with a strong resolve to enhance policing efficiency, ensure public safety, and maintain law and order.
