Gurugram, April 7 A woman is alleged to have strangled her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter to death before attempting suicide by cutting her throat in the Surya Vihar area, police said on Tuesday.
The woman is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital. Police have sent the girl's body for an autopsy, and are also questioning her husband, they added.
According to police, the incident took place on Monday night in the Surya Vihar colony in Sector 9A.
Police said that the woman, identified as Neha, lived with her husband and two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Anika.
Upon receiving information about the incident on Monday night, a police team reached the spot, registered an FIR at the Sector 9A police station, and launched an investigation, a senior police officer said.
"The woman is currently unconscious. Her husband was also questioned, but he denied any knowledge of the incident. The reason for such an extreme act will only be revealed after further questioning," the officer said.
