Police Investigate Murder of Missing Meghalayan Woman.webp

Shillong, April 6 The body of a woman, who had been missing since last month, was found stuffed in a bag and dumped in a stream near Nongrah here on Monday, police said.

The body was discovered by locals, who alerted the police.

East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said the deceased is believed to be the woman who had been reported missing since March 20.

The victim was a resident of Shillong and originally hailed from the West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, he said.

Family members later arrived at the scene and assisted in identifying the body, police said.

The body has been taken to NEIGRIHMS for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, a neighbor told police that he had heard someone dumping a "heavy object" near his house late at night last week, but did not pay attention, assuming it to be garbage.

Police suspect foul play and are treating the case as a murder.

"A suspect has been identified. Necessary action will be taken to arrest all those involved," Syiem said, adding that further investigation is underway.
