
Chennai, April 2 The ECI appointed senior IPS officer Sandeep Rai Rathore as the new DGP of Tamil Nadu, replacing G Venkataraman, who previously held the position of in-charge DGP and head of the police force.
Venkataraman has been serving as the in-charge Director General of Police for Tamil Nadu and Head of the Police Force since September 2025, following the retirement of Shankar Jiwal.
Rathore, a 1992 batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the new DGP and Head of the Police Force ahead of the April 23 state assembly elections. Previously, he was the DGP of the Chennai Police Training Academy.
Other key transfers include Sanjay Kumar (Additional Director General of Police, Coastal Security Group), Abhishek Dixit (Inspector General of Police, Traffic and Road Safety, Chennai), and R V Ramya Bharati (Inspector General of Police, Crime, Chennai). They have been posted as Commissioner of Tambaram, Commissioner of Madurai, and IGP of the West Zone, Coimbatore, respectively, according to a release.
