Police Questioning Amid Assam Election Concerns.webp

Jaipur, April 7 Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot alleged on Tuesday that the BJP is "panicked" due to the fear of defeat in the Assam elections and is misusing government agencies.

Gehlot made the remarks after a team of the Assam Police reached the Delhi residence of Congress leader Pawan Khera for questioning in connection with a case linked to allegations made against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family.

In a statement, he said, "Fearing defeat in the Assam elections, the BJP has become rattled. Its biggest weakness is that it attacks from behind the cover of police and government agencies instead of following democratic principles."

He alleged that the use of police against the Congress media department chairman was "cowardly", adding that such tactics would not intimidate the party.

"The Congress cannot be scared by such moves. Showing fear of agencies like the Assam Police, CBI, and ED will not affect our brave workers," Gehlot said.

The former chief minister further said that the people of Assam are watching and understand that the BJP only knows how to spread fear and hatred.

Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra also targeted the BJP over the issue, alleging that its politics is limited to intimidation and misuse of institutions to suppress opposition voices.

On Sunday, Khera had alleged that Sarma's wife had three passports and that he had hidden information about her assets in his poll affidavit. Following the charge, a case was registered at the Crime Branch Police Station in Guwahati.
