Political Shift in Kerala: Razack Returns to IUML.webp

Malappuram (Kerala), March 22 In a significant political development ahead of the April 9 assembly elections, former independent MLA Karat Razack, who had been backed by the Left, reunited with the IUML on Sunday, after parting ways with the ruling LDF.

The IUML is a key constituent of the opposition, the Congress-led UDF.

Razack, a former MLA from Koduvally, met IUML state president Sayed Sadik Ali Shihab Thangal at his residence here, after which he was formally readmitted into the party.

Addressing reporters, Razack said his return was unconditional and not driven by any personal demands.

He pointed to a growing disconnect within the LDF, alleging that the Left Front has failed to adequately accommodate leaders like him.

Razack stated that he felt sidelined within the LDF, describing the experience as disappointing and said the lack of engagement from the leadership prompted his decision to return to the IUML.

"I decided to return to the IUML last night. I will work within the party with renewed energy to bridge the 10-year gap from the organization," he said.

With the Left's support, Razack won the Koduvally seat in 2016 by defeating the IUML candidate by a narrow margin of 573 votes.

However, in the 2021 assembly elections, he was defeated by IUML leader M K Muneer with a margin of 6,344 votes.

He currently serves as the chairman of the Madrasa Welfare Fund Board.
