
Kolkata, April 1 Over 40 people were injured after a bus collided with a truck in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Wednesday, police said.
The accident occurred near Pomia in Nabagram on National Highway 12 when people were returning from a public meeting addressed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Bholadanga ground.
Ambulances from the nearby Shibpur toll plaza rushed to the scene and transported the injured to the Palsonda Primary Health Centre, where they received initial medical attention.
"Four individuals with serious injuries have been referred to Berhampore Medical College and Hospital for further treatment," an official from the health department said.
Police stated that the condition of some of the injured was critical, and an investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched.
"A case has been registered, and we are investigating whether speeding or negligence caused the collision," a senior police officer said.
