
Panaji, March 19 The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced Geetesh Naik as its candidate for the Ponda assembly by-election in Goa, scheduled for April 9.
Naik joined AAP on Wednesday in the presence of the party's national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, in Ponda, South Goa district.
The by-election to the Ponda assembly segment has been necessitated due to the death of the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA and former Minister of Agriculture, Ravi Naik, on October 15 last year.
AAP Goa desk in-charge Atishi and state president Valmiki Naik announced Geetesh Naik as the party's candidate for the by-election in a statement on Thursday.
The ruling BJP has fielded Ritesh Ravi Naik, the son of Ravi Naik, while the Congress has announced Dr Ketan Bhatikar as its candidate for the by-election.
