Poonch Border Residents Evacuated Due to Fire and Landmine Explosions.webp

Mendhar/Jammu, March 10 Some landmines exploded on Tuesday due to a forest fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, causing panic among residents living near the border, officials said.

No casualties were reported in the blasts, and efforts are underway to extinguish the flames, they said.

The fire broke out in the forward area of Balakote sector, Dadote, around 9:55 am, causing some landmines to explode due to the heat. The fire had not been contained as of the latest reports, they said.

Forward areas along the LoC are dotted with landmines as part of an anti-infiltration obstacle system to prevent terrorists from infiltrating into Indian territory from across the border.
