Jammu, April 7 A CRPF soldier was killed when his service rifle went off inside a camp in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.
Constable Abdul Gani, a resident of Samba, was on duty when he sustained a fatal bullet injury from his own service weapon in Poonch town, the officials said.
They said the circumstances leading to the firing are under investigation, with preliminary findings not ruling out any possibility, including accidental discharge or suicide.
His colleagues rushed to the scene upon hearing the gunshot and found him dead, the officials said.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings to determine the exact cause of the incident, the officials said.
