
Major ports in the country recorded 915 million tonnes of cargo in the 2025-26 financial year, exceeding the annual target by over 7 percent. In a statement, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways said this achievement reaffirms the sector's strong recovery, enhanced efficiency, and sustained growth trajectory. It also highlights the impact of the transformative reforms and strategic investments undertaken by the government to modernize port infrastructure, improve logistics efficiency, and strengthen India's position as a leading maritime nation.
The Ministry stated that the performance reflects consistent growth across major ports, with the Deendayal Port Authority emerging as the top performer, followed by the Paradip Port Authority and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, said the record cargo handling by the country's major ports is a testament to the government's unwavering commitment to strengthening India's maritime sector. He said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ministry is building world-class port infrastructure, improving efficiency, and enabling seamless logistics to support India's growing economy.
