New Delhi, March 24 The Delhi Budget 2026-27, presented by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in the Assembly on Tuesday, allocated Rs 3,942 crore to the power department, including Rs 3,500 crore for subsidy payments and Rs 200 crore for undergrounding overhead wires.

The budget also proposes the establishment of a Delhi Energy Conservation Fund to promote energy efficiency and conservation in the national capital.

"With the allocation of Rs 3,942 crore for the Power department, we will not only continue the power subsidy but also move Delhi towards energy self-reliance through the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana and an incentive-based scheme for promoting solar power," Gupta said in her budget speech.

The Delhi government fully subsidizes monthly power consumption up to 200 units, while users consuming 201-400 units receive a 50% subsidy.

The government has doubled the allocation for undergrounding high-tension and low-tension wires, increasing it from Rs 100 crore in 2025-26 to Rs 200 crore in the 2026-27 budget.

Last year, the budget allocation for the Power department was Rs 3,847 crore.

The Chief Minister said work has started to underground wires in 28 streets of the Chandni Chowk area, at an estimated cost of Rs 160 crore.

An allocation of Rs 200 crore has been made in this year’s budget for undergrounding HT/LT wires in other parts of the city. This move will not only enhance the aesthetics of the areas but also help prevent accidents, she added.
