Power Supply in J&K: ACS Kumar Prioritizes Efficiency and Expansion.webp

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 27: Additional Chief Secretary of the Power Development Department, Ashwani Kumar, conducted a thorough review of J&K's power infrastructure and operational performance.

The meetings, which included senior officers such as Managing Directors, Chief Engineers, and Directors of Finance and Planning, focused on power supply, transmission, and generation. The department reported meeting a peak demand of 3,350 MW this winter, which was 7% higher than last year.

Kumar emphasized uninterrupted power supply during Iftar and Sehri, reducing energy losses, robust load monitoring, improved grievance redressal, and the accelerated rollout of smart meters in commercial and industrial areas. He reviewed major transmission projects, progress on hydroelectric projects—Pakal Dul, Kiru, Kwar, Ratle—and stressed exploring pumped storage for peak demand management.

He called for integrated summer preparedness planning, expedited technical interventions, and policy measures to fully harness J&K's hydropower potential.
