Agartala, March 21 Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Debbarma said on Monday that his party will not form an alliance for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections unless there is a guarantee on the fulfillment of the Triprasa Accord.
Debbarma's announcement came days after Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma said the party had initiated talks with the BJP to form an alliance for the TTAADC elections, and that seat adjustments would be finalized soon.
Polling for the 28-member tribal council will be held on April 12, and the votes will be counted on April 17.
"My name is Pradyot Kishore Manikya, and I fight for my people. I will never compromise with the future of the next generation. Many people have more power and money, but I have the support of the poor Tiprasa people," he said in a social media post.
"For the past six months, I had to endure personal attacks and verbal abuse, but I did not respond. The Tiprasa people will give a fitting reply on April 12 and 17. Do whatever you can do, and I am prepared for that," he added, without naming anyone.
Asserting that the electoral battle is not merely a political fight, Debbarma appealed to the tribals of the state to raise their voice and show their strength to the entire Northeast.
The Tipra Motha signed an agreement with the Centre and the state government in March 2024 for the overall socio-economic-linguistic development of the state's tribal community.
The party is a part of the BJP-led government in the state, but the two sides have been at loggerheads over the tribal council polls.
At present, the Tipra Motha is in power in the tribal council.
