
March 18th, Aizawl: To preserve and promote traditional Mizo heritage, Minister of Art & Culture C. Lalsawivunga inaugurated the three-day 'Doordarshan Mizoram Indigenous Games & Cultural Festival 2026' today at the Ramhlun Sports Complex, Aizawl.
The event is jointly organized by Doordarshan Aizawl and the Mizoram Indigenous Games Association (MIGA). Speaking as the Chief Guest, Minister Lalsawivunga emphasized the importance of safeguarding ancestral traditions amidst modernization. He praised the organizers for reintroducing forgotten indigenous games to the younger generation, ensuring that the Mizo cultural identity remains vibrant in the face of modern global sports.
The opening ceremony featured traditional Hlado chants, cultural dances by the Chhawkhlei Cultural Club, and local musical performances. The festival, which concludes on Friday, will host competitions in ancestral sports such as Inbuan (Mizo wrestling), Insuk nawr (rod pushing), and Kalchhet (stilt walking), followed by evening concerts featuring top Mizo artists.
