Nagpur, February 25 President Droupadi Murmu said on Wednesday that India can truly be called a developed nation only if everyone has an equal opportunity to progress and the benefits of development reach every home.
She was speaking after launching the 'Golden Era of Maharashtra through Unity and Trust' campaign, organized by Brahma Kumaris in Nagpur.
"Unity and faith are the foundation stones for a strong nation. When mutual trust increases in society, people rise above personal gain and work together for a common goal. By promoting equality, eliminating discrimination, and participating in social causes, every citizen can contribute to nation-building," she said.
Stating that the government has launched several initiatives to promote national integration and social harmony, she added that Digital India, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and other services have "instilled a sense of trust among the people and strengthened the process of nation-building".
"India will truly be a developed nation only when everyone has an equal opportunity to progress, when technology becomes a resource for progress, and when the benefits of development reach every home," she said.
According to her, being positive and having faith in the present are needed to spread unity and faith across the world.
"India was once known as a 'golden sparrow'...The day is not far when the era of Swarnim Bharat or Viksit Bharat or Vishwa Guru will come again with people's faith and unity," the President said.
She urged people to discard negativity and embrace positivity.
Describing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as an inspirational figure who fought for justice and freedom, she also hailed the contribution of saints in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra has consistently set examples of social, economic, cultural, and spiritual development in the country. This sacred land has been the birthplace of great ideologies and ideals of nation-building that instilled a new consciousness in the people of India, she said.
The thoughts, struggles, and contributions of great icons like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Vasudev Balwant Phadke, Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, and Dr B R Ambedkar have empowered the nation, President Murmu added.
She praised Brahma Kumaris for its "inspiring" campaign, and said it will instill faith and unity in society.
