JAMMU, APRIL 05: The J&K Traffic Police have launched a strict enforcement drive against the illegal use of pressure horns across the Union Territory, at the direction of the Inspector General of Traffic Police.
In a statement, the department reiterated that the Supreme Court of India, in its 2013 ruling in Abhay Singh vs State of Uttar Pradesh, banned all types of pressure horns. Their use is an offense under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, punishable with a fine of up to ₹10,000 and imprisonment up to six months.
Despite this, violations continue, with vehicles using air horns, multi-toned horns, and other non-compliant devices, causing noise pollution and public inconvenience.
Motorists have been advised to immediately remove such devices and comply with Rule 119 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. Traffic units have been directed to intensify checks, especially in congested and urban areas, and take strict action against violators.
The public has also been urged to cooperate and report violations to nearby Traffic Control Units.
