Wayanad (Kerala), April 7 Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday claimed that the party's housing project for victims of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides was delayed due to a lack of approvals from the ruling Left government in Kerala.
Addressing a UDF meeting in Kalpetta, Priyanka stated that the approvals for the project were only given after the LDF's township was inaugurated.
"I am sure my colleagues in the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) faced the same difficulties," she asserted.
Her remarks come amidst allegations of irregularities against Congress regarding the collection and use of funds for the Wayanad housing project, putting the party on the defensive.
Priyanka also criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, questioning why he was not facing any charges despite facing multiple corruption accusations, while those opposing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP are being investigated by central agencies.
"Therefore, it is clear that they have a secret agreement and they are working together for their own political gain," she alleged.
She further alleged that during the last 10 years of LDF rule in Kerala, there has been widespread corruption, a rise in unemployment, the state has accumulated a huge financial debt, and taxes have increased, making life difficult for the people.
Referring to the increasing conflict between humans and animals in the hilly regions, the Congress MP from Wayanad stated that political will and cooperation are needed to find a solution, but the LDF is not up to the task.
She urged voters to vote for the UDF in the April 9 elections, saying that "the LDF works for corporations, not for the common people".
