
Don Bosco College, Tura, celebrated National Science Day 2026 with the theme "Women in Science – Catalysing Viksit Bharat" on Monday, February 23rd. The event was attended by Shri Banmanlang Warr Lyndem, MCS, Assistant Commissioner, Tura, and Rev. Fr. John Paul Tirkey, Vice Principal, Don Bosco College, Dr. Madhusudhan Saha, Associate Professor, DBC, Tura, along with other faculty and students.
The inaugural session began with a welcome song performed by students majoring in chemistry, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. In his address, Rev. Fr. John Paul Tirkey emphasized the importance of the day and welcomed the chief guest.
Shri Banmanlang Warr Lyndem delivered an inspiring speech, citing examples of women scientists like Mary Curie and Kalpana Chawla, who have made significant contributions to science. He stressed the need for women to play a major role in transforming India into a developed nation through science and technology.
Dr. Madhusudhan Saha, in his keynote address, highlighted the role of science and technology in India's development. He emphasized that women can act as catalysts in transforming India into a developed country by 2047, addressing the existing gender gap in the STEM workforce.
Shri Banmanlang Warr Lyndem, the Assistant Commissioner, also explored the science models presented by the students. The technical session featured a packed scientific program, including the presentation of science models, a presentation by Dr. Arindam Ghosh, a special presentation on "Human Calendar," a Science Quiz Competition led by HOD Habul Chandra Das, and the distribution of prizes. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes and a vote of thanks.
Dr. Madhusudhan Saha, while speaking to the media, stated that the event aimed to instill scientific temper among youth and encourage women to pursue science, thereby bridging the existing gender gap in the STEM workforce.
