Residential property worth sixteen lakh rupees seized in Amargarh Sharkoot area as police intensify crackdown against narcotics trafficking in north Kashmir district
March 10, Handwara: Continuing its firm action against drug trafficking, the District Police Handwara have seized a residential property belonging to an alleged drug dealer in the Amargarh Sharkoot area of north Kashmir.
The seized property comprises a single-storey residential house constructed on land measuring 6.5 marlas under Survey Number 1341/965 at Amargarh Sharkoot in Tehsil Tarathpora. The action was taken in connection with FIR Number 64/2025 registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Police Station Vilgam.
The property, estimated to be worth approximately sixteen lakh rupees, belongs to Abdul Hameed Rather, son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather, a resident of Amargarh Sharkoot, who is allegedly involved in drug peddling activities.
The seizure proceedings were carried out by a joint team of officers from Police Station Vilgam along with the Naib Tehsildar Tarathpora, who visited the site and formally seized the property under the relevant provisions of the Act.
During preliminary investigation, it was established that the property had allegedly been acquired through proceeds generated from illegal drug trafficking. Authorities subsequently initiated seizure proceedings as per legal provisions.
District Police Handwara reiterated their strong commitment to combating the menace of drug abuse and narcotics trafficking in the district and warned that strict legal action will continue against individuals involved in the trade, including attachment of properties acquired through illicit means.
