Protest at MP Assembly: MLA's 'Shirshasana' Highlights FIR Dispute

Protest at MP Assembly: MLA's 'Shirshasana' Highlights FIR Dispute.webp

Bhopal, February 27 Madhya Pradesh Congress MLA Babu Jandel literally brought the issue to a head on Friday by performing 'shirshasana', or a headstand, a yoga pose in which the entire body is balanced on the head, at the Vidhan Bhavan complex here, while protesting against an FIR filed against him.

An FIR was registered against Jandel after a round of celebratory firing at a Mahashivratri event on February 15.

During the Zero Hour of the assembly's budget session, Congress MLAs Pankaj Upadhyay and party whip Sohan Valmiki raised the matter along with Jandel, with the speaker responding that their concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate department.

However, the response did not satisfy the opposition MLAs, who walked out of the House and protested in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the premises. The highlight of the protest was Jandel's headstand.

Speaking to reporters, he claimed an FIR was also registered against him in December when he protested on issues related to cows.

He alleged that FIRs are frequently filed against him, adding that the High Court has acquitted him in seven cases.

"I will continue to protest if the state government does not withdraw the case. I am not afraid of going to jail," Jandel said.
