Puducherry Assembly Elections: AIADMK Focus on Statehood

Puducherry Assembly Elections: AIADMK Focus on Statehood.webp

Puducherry, April 5 AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami said on Sunday that his party would make all efforts to secure full statehood for Puducherry.

Addressing a rally here, campaigning for the AIADMK and other constituents of the NDA in the April 9 Assembly polls, he said his party MPs would raise the statehood demand in Parliament.

According to him, Puducherry would receive more funds from the union government and witness faster development only when the same party is in power at the Centre and in Puducherry.

He appealed to the voters to back the NDA, in which the AINRC, the AIADMK, BJP and LJK are the constituents at the polls.

He praised AINRC leader and Chief Minister N Rangasamy for implementing several measures for the wellbeing of all sections of people in Puducherry.

He also recalled the good work done by the Chief Minister during the COVID-19 period here.

"The country also exported the vaccine to superpower countries to keep coronavirus at bay and to save several precious human lives," the AIADMK leader said.

The AIADMK leader cautioned the people here to be wary about the DMK, whose leader would be campaigning here shortly.

Targeting the DMK, he alleged, "Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin would come to Puducherry only to loot money in the liquor trade. People of Puducherry should be cautious as Tamil Nadu was now witnessing during the DMK rule, collection, commission and corruption in the liquor business by TASMAC."

Palaniswami also claimed that the INDIA bloc was "reeling under confusion and chaos" in Puducherry.

He charged the DMK leader Stalin with "adopting double standards" in alliance politics in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

"Stalin would change colours according to the prevailing situation and people of Puducherry should therefore be wary of the DMK."

The AIADMK is contesting two assembly constituencies as part of the NDA here.

AIADMK convenor of Puducherry A Anbalagan and another functionary of the party A Gandhi are contesting the Uppalam and Orleanpet constituencies respectively.

Elections to the 30 assembly constituencies in Puducerry would be held on April 9.
