Puducherry, March 30 Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy said that the NDA, led by the AINRC, would form the next government for a consecutive term after the April 9 Assembly polls in the union territory.
While campaigning in the neighbouring Muthialpet constituency, Rangasamy undertook a brief tour of several villages, seeking support for AINRC candidate Vayyapuri Manikandan.
The CM said that during the past five years, since the AINRC-led NDA government assumed office under his leadership, several welfare schemes had been launched to improve the condition of the poor and underprivileged in Puducherry.
He said that if the NDA government is re-elected, it would increase the financial assistance provided to families with a girl child from the present Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
"This measure is intended to ensure that girl children are taken care of without difficulty, particularly concerning their education," he said.
The amount would be deposited in the name of the girl child and would be payable after she turns 18, he said, adding that it would help families meet various expenses, especially those related to education.
Rangasamy alleged that the previous Congress government had failed the people during its tenure from 2016 to 2021.
"Puducherry did not witness any development during the Congress rule," he said.
He added that, if elected, the NDA would introduce several progressive measures to further improve public welfare.
Senior AINRC leader K Lakshminarayanan and party candidate Vayyapuri Manikandan accompanied the CM during the campaign.
