
Observers appointed by the Election Commission reviewed the preparations for the Puducherry Assembly elections at a meeting held at the District Collectorate yesterday. General and Expenditure Observers, along with election officials, police officers, and coordination officers, participated in the meeting. District Election Officer Kulothungan briefed the Observers on the number of polling stations in the union territory, including vulnerable locations. He also presented details of voters, personnel deployed for poll duty, training arrangements, and the functioning of teams monitoring violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) R. Kalaivanan explained the security arrangements put in place to ensure peaceful polling. The Observers expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and offered suggestions for further strengthening the process. Later, the Observers held discussions with officials from the Income Tax, Enforcement, GST, Excise and Commercial Taxes departments on expenditure monitoring and enforcement measures. The District Election Officer directed all officials to strictly follow the guidelines and suggestions of the Observers.
