DDC Pulwama holds General Council meeting at Circuit House to review district capex, area development funds and overall progress of developmental works for year 2025–26

February 24, Pulwama: The District Development Council Pulwama today convened its General Council meeting at Circuit House Pulwama to review the status of developmental works and overall progress achieved during the year 2025–26.

At the outset, Chief Planning Officer Aashiq Hussain Khanday presented a detailed PowerPoint briefing on the physical and financial progress under the District Capex Budget 2025–26. He also apprised the council about achievements under the Area Development Fund of DDC, BDC and PRIs, providing a sector-wise overview of completed works, ongoing projects, expenditure status and departmental targets.

Addressing the meeting, the DDC Chairperson urged all departments to ensure timely completion of works in accordance with prescribed timelines and quality standards, while avoiding lapse of funds. He stressed transparency, accountability and efficiency in the execution of developmental projects and reflected on the evolving role of District Development Councils as the present council approaches the completion of its term.

The Chairperson highlighted the significance of the Panchayati Raj Act in strengthening grassroots democracy, stating that while development remains a core objective, the true essence of the three-tier Panchayati Raj system lies in ensuring last-mile delivery of services and giving voice to underprivileged sections of society. He also expressed gratitude to the district administration, noting that Pulwama DDC has remained among the top-performing councils due to effective coordination and administrative support.

Members of the council shared their experiences and highlighted developmental initiatives undertaken in their respective constituencies. They appreciated inter-departmental coordination and expressed satisfaction over the overall progress, reiterating the need to sustain development momentum in the district.

The meeting was attended by DDC members, senior district officers, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, and heads of key line departments.
