Chandigarh, April 8 A multi-purpose exhibition-cum-convention center worth Rs 250 crore will come up in Mohali, Punjab, according to Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora, who announced the development on Wednesday.
The project, to be developed on 14 acres of land in Sector 83 by Exhicon Events Media Solutions Ltd through a public-private partnership model, is expected to generate 15,000 to 25,000 employment opportunities in the first five years, Arora told reporters here.
The project is estimated to cost around Rs 250 crore, he said, adding that the concession period for the project will be 15 years.
The project involves developing a state-of-the-art convention center designed to host large-scale national and international events, with world-class infrastructure and facilities, he said.
The project will be completed in two phases, with the first phase targeted for completion by December 31 of this year, and the second phase by December 2027.
The upcoming facility will feature large-span, column-free exhibition halls, including two major halls of approximately 40,000 square feet and 15,000 sq ft, along with conference and breakout rooms, retail and food and beverage zones spread over around 15,000 sq ft, and parking lots for at least 1,000 vehicles, Arora said.
The center will have the capacity to host 5,000-10,000 delegates, besides having meet and greet areas spread around 20,000 sq ft for 2,000 people, space for trade fairs and exhibitions with 200 to 500 booths, corporate events for 1,000 to 10,000 attendees, cultural and entertainment programmes for 1,000 to 10,000 people, and social events for up to 15,000 people.
This center will be a transformational project for Punjab. It will significantly enhance our capacity to host global events, attract investments, and generate large-scale employment.
Mohali is rapidly emerging as a modern urban and technology hub, and such a world-class infrastructure will further accelerate its growth trajectory, the minister said.
