Mohali, March 12 Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Infosys campus, worth Rs 286 crore, coming up in Mohali will provide direct employment to about 2,700 young people and generate thousands of indirect jobs.

Speaking after the ground-breaking ceremony of the project, Mann said that Punjab is witnessing a turnaround in its industrial sector with investors returning to the state.

He alleged that before 2022, many industries had moved out of Punjab due to extortion and pressure on industrialists, but investors were now returning with confidence.

The chief minister said that the Punjab government has attracted investment proposals worth over Rs 1.55 lakh crore since March 2022, which are expected to create jobs for about 5.44 lakh young people.

Mann said that the Progressive Punjab Investment Summit, to be held in Mohali from March 13-15, will open new opportunities for industrial growth in the state.

He thanked Infosys for investing in Punjab and recalled the contribution of the company's founder, N R Narayana Murthy, to the growth of India's IT sector.

The chief minister said that the first phase of the project will include an integrated campus with a software development block, food court, and other facilities.

The campus will have a built-up area of about 3.5 lakh square feet with seating capacity for around 3,000 people. Mann said that the state government will provide full support for the project and expressed hope that more companies will invest in Punjab, creating employment opportunities for young people.

He also said that the Rs 3,200 crore Tata Steel project will be inaugurated in Ludhiana on March 20 and is expected to generate around 2,500 jobs. Mann said that the Punjab government's industry-friendly policies, corruption-free governance, and peaceful environment were helping attract investments to the state.

Cabinet minister Sanjeev Arora and Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney were also present on the occasion.
